The Fine Arts Association of Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organised A Session on Madhubani Art on April 22, 2026. The session aimed to introduce students to one of India’s oldest folk art traditions and develop an appreciation for cultural heritage.
The resource person for the session was Mrs. K Sheela Nayak, an Art Teacher from Mangaluru. She explained its five styles Bharni, Kachni, Tantrik, Godna, and Kohbar along with key motifs like fish, peacocks, and lotus, and their symbolic meanings. She demonstrated traditional techniques using bold outlines, intricate patterns, and natural colours, and guided students to draw basic borders and motifs. The session was interactive and well-received. 60 students participated and gained hands-on exposure to Madhubani art. The event successfully promoted creativity and awareness of traditional Indian art forms among students.
