The Fine Arts Association of Canara College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organised a session on Sewing Essentials: Learn the Fundamentals with Needle and Thread on March 11, 2026. The session was conducted to introduce students to the basic skills of sewing and to encourage creativity, patience, and self-reliance through needlework.
Mrs. Ammani, the resource person, began by explaining the importance of sewing as a life skill and demonstrated the correct use of tools such as needles, threads, scissors, and measuring tapes. She guided the students through fundamental techniques including threading a needle, knotting, and executing basic stitches like the running stitch, back stitch, and hemming. Students were provided with fabric and thread to practice under her supervision, and she offered individual feedback to improve their precision and technique. A Total of 41 students actively participated in this session.
