October 6, 2025

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote equity and inclusion, the Equal Opportunity Cell of our college organized a seminar based on the theme of the Indian Knowledge System. The seminar, titled “Expanding Horizons of the Equal Opportunities Regime in the Context of the Indian Knowledge System,” was held on October 6, 2025. The event aimed to explore how traditional Indian knowledge can contribute to building a more inclusive and equitable society. It was designed to educate students from the B.Com., BCA, and B.Sc. streams on the importance of equal opportunities and how the Indian Knowledge System offers valuable insights and frameworks to promote inclusion, diversity, and social justice in contemporary society.
Dr. Girish K. C., Coordinator of the Centre for Research in Water Resource Management and Law as well as the Centre for Research in Democracy and Constitutional Government at Karnataka State Law University, Hubli, was the esteemed resource person for the seminar. He began the session by introducing the Equal Opportunity Cell and its objectives, then transitioned to discussing the Indian Knowledge System, briefly explaining its principles and significance in promoting equal opportunities. The session effectively highlighted the critical role of traditional knowledge in shaping inclusive policies and fostering social equity.
An interactive segment followed, during which participants enthusiastically posed questions. Dr. Girish responded with clear explanations and practical examples, thoughtfully engaging the audience. He concluded the session by emphasizing key concepts such as institutionalization and internalization, sensitization and awareness, and the important distinction that “it is indifference, not ignorance, that hinders progress.” His insights encouraged participants to reflect on their role in fostering equality through both knowledge and action.
Dr. Premalatha V., Principal; Mrs. Anasuya Bhagvath, IQAC Coordinator; and Dr. Ganesh Shetty U., Head of the Political Science Department, were present for the seminar. The session began with a prayer offered by Ms. Sugama Priya, Ms. Rithika, Ms. Greeshma, and Ms. Namitha, all from III B.Sc. Mrs. Poornima, staff convenor of the Equal Opportunity Cell, warmly welcomed the attendees and gave a brief introduction of the resource person. Ms. Ananya G. Shetty of III B.Sc. efficiently hosted the event, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Namitha, the staff convenor. A total of 99 students from the B.Com., B.Sc., and BCA programs actively participated and benefited from the seminar.
