Workshop on Consumer Education

“A Workshop on Consumer Education” was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell and the Consumer Forum of Canara College, in association with the D.K District Federation of Consumer Organisation, the D.K District Consumer Information Centre, and the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Mangaluru, on March 10, 2025, at the Seminar Hall. Sri M.J. Salian, President of the D.K District Federation of Consumer Organisation, Prof. Krishnamurthi P., Former Principal of Govindadasa College, Surathkal, and Sri Naveen Krishna from the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs were the resource persons for the workshop.

The workshop commenced with a prayer, setting a serene and focused tone for the day’s proceedings. Mrs. Sunanda Kumble, Secretary of the D.K District Federation of Consumer Organisation, delivered the welcome address, extending a warm reception to all attendees and emphasizing the importance of consumer education. Following the welcome, an overview of the workshop’s purpose and the activities of the Consumer Club was presented by Sri M.J. Salian, who highlighted the club’s role in promoting consumer rights and responsibilities among students. The keynote session featured Prof. Krishnamurthi P., who provided an insightful discourse on consumer rights, emphasizing the significance of awareness and vigilance in the marketplace. Subsequently, Sri Naveen Krishna from the Food Department shared valuable information about food safety standards and the department’s initiatives to protect consumers, underscoring the role of regulatory bodies in ensuring food quality.

Dr. Premalatha, Principal of Canara College, addressed the gathering and expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the D.K District Federation of Consumer Organisation and the D.K District Consumer Information Centre in imparting consumer education through the Certificate Course and workshops.

The workshop also included a prize distribution ceremony for the quiz competition organized in conjunction with National Consumer Day. The winners were recognized and applauded for their knowledge and enthusiasm, reflecting the effectiveness of the consumer education initiatives.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. D.R. Sunanda, Member of the D.K District Federation of Consumer Organisation, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and contributors for their efforts in making the workshop successful.  This workshop was coordinated by Mrs Anasuya Bhagvath, IQAC Coordinator, and Mrs. Lavina S Noronha, Staff Coordinator of Consumer Forum. Ninety-seven students participated in this workshop.
