The Constitution of India guarantees fundamental rights to all its citizens, including the right to equality and protection against discrimination. Recognizing the importance of educating individuals about these rights—especially those concerning women—the Equal Opportunity Cell of our college organized a seminar on “Women Rights and the Constitution” on May 28, 2025, in Lecture Hall 35, to spread awareness and promote legal literacy.
Dr. Ganesh U. Shetty, Head of the Department of Political Science and a constitutional expert, was the resource person for the program. He enriched the students with knowledge about the basic rights of women in our civil society. He emphasized that it is the duty of both the state and every citizen to protect these rights from being violated. He delivered an insightful presentation highlighting various constitutional articles related to women’s rights, including Articles 14, 15, and 21, as well as key legislation such as the “Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act” and “ Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act”. Dr. Shetty made the session highly engaging by encouraging student interaction and asking thought-provoking questions.
Mrs. Savitha D.K., Convenor of the Equal Opportunity Cell, introduced the resource person and welcomed the gathering. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Poornima, Co-convenor of the Cell. A total of 25 students benefited from this informative and interactive session.
