In connection with the governmental initiative- “Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2024”, the NSS volunteers of Canara College, Mangaluru on September 19, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. conducted various activities under “POSHAN Bhi Padhai Bhi and Awareness Program on Anaemia Prevention” in three different schools- Mangala English Medium School, Besant Higher Primary School, and Bockapatna Government Primary School. 11 second year NSS volunteers enthusiastically carried out various activities with the aim was to spread awareness among growing children about anaemia prevention, while the 106 first year volunteers distributed handbills to spread awareness about health & nutrition among the general public. In total, 117 NSS volunteers were actively involved in the activity.
“Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition (POSHAN) Abhiyaan” or “National Nutrition Mission (NNM)” is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 8th March, 2018 to address malnutrition by focusing on the nutritional status of pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, and children up to the age of six. It is a nationwide celebration that promotes nutrition awareness and drives action towards building a healthier India.
This year, the “Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2024” campaign, celebrated from 1st to 30th September, 2024, in its 7th phase focuses on critical themes such as Anaemia Prevention, Growth Monitoring, Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, Complementary Feeding, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, and Technology for Better Governance. Of these, “Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi- Education along with Nutrition” is an integrated nutrition support program aimed at combating malnutrition especially among children from 0-6 years, and adolescent girls. These activities focus on promoting healthy eating practices, improving dietary diversity, and educating communities about locally available nutritious foods.
