On August 30, 2024, the Association of English Teachers (AET), in collaboration with Canara College and Orient Blackswan Private Limited, organized a one-day workshop on the I Semester UG English Syllabus under the S.E.P. Scheme. The event, hosted in the Smt. Ratna Shenoy Memorial Hall drew 130 English lecturers from colleges across Mangalore and its neighboring areas.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Rithika S. Das, Head of the Department of English, at Canara College. The inauguration was graced by Chief Guest CA M. Jagannath Kamath, who highlighted the pivotal role of English education in shaping young minds and preparing them for a globalized world.
Prof. Parinitha, Chairperson of the Board of Studies in English at Mangalore University, delivered an engaging keynote address. She provided an in-depth analysis of the new syllabus, emphasizing its flexibility and capacity to cultivate critical thinking among students. Prof. Parinitha also explored the enduring impact of colonial influence on English language education in India, sparking meaningful discussions among participants.
The workshop was presided over by Dr. Premalatha V., Principal of Canara College. She reiterated the importance of such academic initiatives in ensuring quality education. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Victor Vaz E., President of AET, who acknowledged the contributions of all those involved in making the workshop a success. Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat, an English lecturer at Canara College, efficiently anchored the program as the Master of Ceremonies.
