The Seven-day Annual Special Camp is a major activity for NSS units of our college. Accompanying more than 100 students to a remote village, accommodating, and making them internalize the values of village life is a challenging task. Arranging an annual camp needs much preparation, organizing skills and co-operation from different streams.
The Seven-day NSS Annual Special Camp for the year 2025-26 was held from February 06 to 12, 2026 at D.K.Z.P.H.P. School, Kodmannu, Bantwal Taluk. 112 NSS volunteers enrolled for this camp and worked with full cooperation, zeal and participated enthusiastically in the camp under the able supervision of the NSS Programme Officers Mrs. Sushama C. and Mrs. Smitha M., the Assistant NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. Laxmi Hegde and Mr. Karthik, and under the guidance of Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, Canara College, Mangaluru.
The Camp was inaugurated by Sri. CA M. Vaman Kamath, Treasurer, Canara High School Association, Correspondent, Canara Evening College and Canara Vikaas Group of Institutions, Mangaluru. In his address, he congratulated the volunteers for choosing NSS and attending the Annual Camp. He urged the volunteers to make the best of the camp as it’s here that they get to learn true life skills, develop team spirit and creativity. Sri K. R. Devadas, President, Sri Rama High School, Arkula, Farangipete was the Chief Guest of the function. He reminisced how the 35-year-long bond between Kodman and Canara College began and fostered over the years. In this regard, he recollected the invaluable contributions of Late Sri. Kodman Kanthappa Shetty. Flag hoisting was done by Mrs. Sulochana K. Shetty, wife of Late Sri. Kodman Kanthappa Shetty. The inaugural programme was presided over by Sri. Basty Purushotham Shenoy, Coordinator, Canara Vikaas Group of Institutions. Sri Sathish Naiga, President, Meremajalu Grama Panchayath, Smt. Chennamma, Vice-President, Meramajalu Grama Panchayat; Sri Laxmikanth Nayak, Smt. Prema M., Head Mistress, D.K.Z.P.H.P. School, Kodmannu, Sri. Bhaskar Rao T., Head Master, Government High School, Kodmannu, Smt. Vimala Naik, Member of Meramajalu Grama Panchayath and Smt. Madhavi Shetty, President, School Development Committee, of D.K.Z.P.H.P. School Kodmannu and of Government High School, and other eminent personalities were the Guests of Honour.
During the seven-day camp the following tasks were completed by the campers:
1.Construction of school Playground
2.Learning based Wall painting of Primary School Hall.
3.Learning based Wall painting in Classrooms.
4.Socio-Economic and Nutritional Survey of the Villagers
5.Repair of Drainage system
6.Cleaning the entire school campus
7.English speaking training for school students
8.Cleanliness Awareness Campaign/Rally
9.Awareness campaign on waste management
10.Awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS prevention and blood donation
11.Personality Development Training
12.Various competitions
13.Cultural Exchange
14.Co-existence, Co-operation, Dignity of Labour
Besides the seven-day camp, various educational programmes such as easy ways to learn English, Communication Skills, Mathematics, Basic Science, Crafts, Dance, Singing etc. were conducted for the benefit of the children of D.K.Z.P.H.P. School, Kodmannu and various games and sports competitions were held for the villagers, school children and campers. The identified area for playground was uneven and required leveling with a JCB, for which management incurred expenses of Rs 21,000, installed two poles in the playground and also donated a Pad Burner worth Rs 24, 500.The Valedictory Programme was held on February 12, 2026. Sri CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent, Canara College presided over the function. In his presidential address, he appreciated the Campers for upholding the dignity and values of the college. Sri Sathish Naiga, President, Meramajalu Grama Panchayath was the esteemed Chief Guest of the function. He appreciated the campers for the success of the camp. Sri. Anand Alva Ponnudi, President of Old Students Association Kodmannu, Smt, Seema Prabhu S, NSS Nodal Officer, D.K. & Head, Assistant Professor in Business Administration and Management, Sri K. Shivanand Shenoy was the Guest of Honour. Nearly, Rs. 1,00,000 worth of asset was created in these 7 days by 112 campers.
The NSS units of the college sincerely thank villagers for their support and cooperation in organizing the camp. Though the camp is funded by Govt. of India, the sanctioned amount is not sufficient to meet the expenses of the camp. Hence, the financial support by the Management, College faculty, Alumni Association of the College and the villagers is worth noting. Thus, the NSS Annual Special Camp added more value to the life of NSS Volunteers and Camp Officers. Experiential learning is the specialty of the NSS Camp. The experience earned in these 7 days will be cherished by the campers in their life. This NSS Camp attempted to establish meaningful linkage between ‘Campus and Community,’ ‘College and Village’ and ‘Knowledge and Action. The camp strived to contribute to national development, foster global competencies and human excellence, and inculcate value system among volunteers.
