BLOOD STEM CELL AWARENESS AND REGISTRATION DRIVE

August 22, 2025

The National Service Scheme (NSS), in collaboration with DKMS Foundation India, organized a Blood Stem Cell Awareness and Registration Drive on August 22, 2025, at 9:30 AM. DKMS Foundation India is a non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and other life-threatening blood disorders.

The event was graced by Ms. Ashitha Steffi J and Ms. Kruthika Ramesh, Senior Associates of DKMS Foundation India, who served as the Guests of Honour. In their address, they emphasized that, similar to blood donation, stem cell donation is a noble and life-saving act. They highlighted how advancements in medical technology have made blood stem cell transplantation a powerful treatment option for patients suffering from blood cancer.

The programme was presided over by Mrs. Dejamma A., Principal In-Charge and Head of the Department of Commerce. Her presence and encouragement added significance to the occasion. The awareness session enlightened students on the importance of stem cell donation and inspired them to contribute to this life-saving cause.

Trained NSS Volunteers actively assisted in the registration process by guiding students and staff, collecting cheek swab samples, and completing the necessary documentation. A remarkable 377 students and staff members came forward to register as potential donors, pledging their support to the mission of eradicating blood cancer from India.

The programme was efficiently coordinated by Mrs. Sushama C. and Mrs. Smitha M. (NSS Programme Officers) along with Mrs. Laxmi Hegde and Mr. Karthik (Assistant Programme Officers). The initiative strongly resonated with the core NSS values of Contribution to National Development and Inculcation of Value Systems among students.
