April 26, 2025

In an increasingly interconnected global market, protecting brand identity through intellectual property rights, especially trademarks, has become more important than ever for businesses and entrepreneurs. Understanding this critical need, the IPR Cell and Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of our college organized a workshop titled “Significance of Trademark Protection in the Global Business Sector” on April 26, 2025. The workshop was designed to educate students from the B.Com., BBA, and BCA programs on the fundamentals of trademark protection, its strategic importance in global trade, and how businesses can leverage trademarks to build strong, recognizable brands.
Dr. Shubhalakshmi P., Assistant Professor of Law at SDM Law College, Mangaluru, served as the esteemed resource person. She began her session with an engaging activity, presenting logos of popular global brands and prompting students to identify them, which created an interactive and enthusiastic learning environment. She then delivered a detailed presentation explaining the concept of trademarks, their importance in global commerce, the various types, the necessity of registration, and the strategic value of trademark protection. Dr. Shubhalakshmi also shared several notable international case studies related to trademark disputes, illustrating real-world implications.
Her session effectively highlighted the critical role of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in modern business and encouraged students to develop awareness of IPR strategies and protections.
The inaugural ceremony of the workshop was graced by Dr. Premalatha V., Principal of our college. The session began with a prayer offered by Ms. Shravya K. and Ms. Harshitha M., both from III B.Sc.
