OBSERVANCE OF UNITY DAY-2023

October 31, 2023

Celebrated every year on October 31, since 2014, National Unity Day, also known as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and the first Home Minister of independent India. This day is dedicated to Sardar Patel, fondly known as the ‘Iron Man of India’ for his significant and commendable role in carrying out the herculean task of unifying the 562 diverse princely states into the Union of India after getting independence from British colonial rule. The observance of ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ also depicts the nation’s strength and resilience by upholding unity, integrity and brotherhood.

In commemoration of the 148th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on October 31, 2023, the NSS Units of Canara College observed ‘National Unity Day’. The observance of this Diwas made the students aware that it was the relentless effort and remarkable diplomacy of Sardar Patel that successfully persuaded all the self-governing princely states to accede to India forming the modern Indian nation, showcasing the true essence of ‘Unity in Diversity’.

The day was celebrated with enthusiasm and fervour. A pledge-taking ceremony was conducted by the NSS Programme Officer Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. The Unity pledge was administered to the 62 participants who vowed to uphold the values of unity and integrity.
