Awareness Campaign on Prevention of Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya An Extension Activity

March 31, 2023

The National Service Scheme units of Canara College, Mangaluru, proactively initiated an impactful awareness campaign on Malaria, Dengue, and Chikungunya, addressing the mounting concerns about these vector-borne diseases from March 23 to 31, 2023 (One Week Extension Activity). With a strong emphasis on community engagement, the campaign’s primary aim was to enlighten the public about the transmission, prevention, and management of these diseases. Guided by the NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. and Mrs. Vani U.S., a total of 246 enthusiastic NSS volunteers played a pivotal role in spreading awareness, empowering communities, and encouraging preventive actions to combat these health challenges effectively.

During the campaign, volunteers visited households in targeted areas, distributing informative materials and engaging residents in open discussions about the diseases. They sensibly stressed the significance of maintaining clean surroundings and adopting preventive measures to curb the spread of these diseases effectively. To expand the campaign’s reach and impact, NSS volunteers effectively utilized various social media platforms. They shared enlightening posts, videos, and info graphics, effectively increasing awareness and encouraging greater community participation in disease prevention efforts.

By successfully conducting this program, the NSS units fulfilled their core values of contributing to national development and instilling a strong value system amongst the participating students. Through the collective efforts of the volunteers, the campaign fostered a sense of responsibility and proactive action, helping to safeguard the health and well-being of the community against the threats posed by Malaria, Dengue, and Chikungunya.
