OPAC – BOOK SEARCH TRAINING

November 5, 2022

Canara College Library contains forty-five thousand books and other materials. Trying to find a specific item can be time consuming, so a system in the library makes searching resources efficient and easy. An Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), the automation software which is the gateway to library collections, has been provided for the benefit of Canara College Library users.

In order to acquaint the students with OPAC, the college Library and Information Centre conducted a training programme – ‘OPAC – Book Search Training’ – in nine sessions held from October 15, 2022 to November 05, 2022, in the library reading room, for the first year UG students. The Librarian Mrs. Kavitha trained the students on how to locate a book using keywords of Authors, Title and Publishers. Through this, students became familiar with the collections of library. With great ease, now they could get to know the availability of resource, description of a book, number of copies and category of a book etc. 463 students were the beneficiaries of this training session.
