Basic Science Lab Program

The teaching of science offers students the ability to accesses a wealth of knowledge and information which will contribute to an overall understanding of how and why things work like they do. Science is able to explain the mechanics and reasons behind the daily functioning of complex systems, which range from the human body to sophisticated modern methods of transport.

In order to create interest in science courses, a “Basic Science Lab” for High School Students event was organized by Science Association at Canara College on September 4, 2019. About 11 schools, strength of 110 students from Mangalore had attended the programme along with their teachers.

The programme started with an inaugural ceremony by the Chief Guest, Dr.Sudhakaran T, Associate Professor and  Head of Chemistry department,  Sri Dayananda Pai Government First Grade College Cartstreet, Mangaluru.  Dr.K.V.Malini, Principal, the Conveners, Ms.Madhushree and Mrs.Sukhalatha ,Secretaries Ms.Arpana E and Ms.Mayuri  were present during the inauguration. The chief guest delivered a speech on how science contributes to our daily life. Mobile phone is one of the wonderful inventions of science. This incredible technology has made our life easy. But the negative uses of mobile phone may bring many troubles to our life. Due to the vast use of technology young generationare not attentive. Pragmatic approach imparts learning by doing and experiencing things. Exhibitions, seminars, projects, presentations, Experimental demonstration etc. are the mediums of wholesome development of the students in schools.He also created awareness about food adulteration. The presidential address was given by Dr.K.VMalini about the event. The event demonstration started at 10.30 am after the inaugural function. The students were divided into 22 groups and were sent to Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology labs one by one in a cyclic order to know and learn  the experiments. The members of   Science Association and other B.Sc. students were involved in this event. The students visited 2 labs in the morning and 2 labs after the lunch break. About 10-14 experiments were set up in each laboratory, power point presentations were made on various interesting topics. The programme ended by 4 P.M The feedback forms were given to the students to know their opinion. As per the opinion of students, it was a successful effort in creating interest towards basic science among students.
