The annual NSS Camp for the year 2018-19 was held from December 20, 2018 to December 26, 2018 at D.K.Z.P.H.P.School, Abbettu, Meremajalu panchayat, Bantwal Taluk. The programme was inaugurated by Sri.M Ranganath Bhat, Hon. Secretary, Canara High School Association. In his address he congratulated the students for choosing NSS and attending Annual Camp. He said the life experience students get in the camp is a take home message and the experience for life and worthier than the marks. Sri. Basti Purushotham Shenoy, Correspondent, Canara Kannada medium higher primary school and Balavadi hoisted the N.S.S flag to mark the beginning. In his address he said, through service we can make other people to remember us. Service to the mankind is service to god. He also expressed his inquisitiveness about the students leading a village life and getting adjusted to the rules and routine of the Camp. Dr. Malini. K.V, Principal Canara College, presided over the inaugural function. The inaugural function was also attended by Sri. M. Kanthappa Shetty, Community Leader of the Panchayat, Sri Sathish Naiga, President, Meremajalu Grama Panchayath, Smt. Leena Apolin D’Souza, Headmistress D.K.Z.P.H.P.School, Pavan Kumar, Gangadhar Pooajry and other eminent personalities.
The main shramadhan work done was
- Construction of a road connecting the school and a village through marshy field of length 500mtrs.
- Clearing a water channel which was closed by landslide during rainy days.
- Leach Pit construction.
- Constructed pathway for flow of rain water.
- Cleaning the premises of D.K.Z.P.H.P.School, Abbettu
In these 7 days of camp, 5 educational programmes were conducted for the volunteers and a Medical Camp Programme was organized for the benefit of the villagers.

The valedictory programme was held on November 26, 2018 and Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Professor, Department of Mathematics, Srinivas College of Education, was the chief guest. In her address she said that student life is a golden life for experiential learning. Dr. Malini K.V, Principal of the college presided over the function. In her presidential address she appreciated the students for the success of camp and upholding the dignity and values of the college. Sri. Ranvindra, Member D.K Zilla Panchayat, Sri. Kanthappa Shetty, Sri Vishu Kumar, President SDMC Meremajalu, Smt. Leena Apolin D’Souza, Headmistress D.K.Z.P.H.P.School, Sri Jayaram Shetty, Sri Pavan Kumar, Kum. Navya were also present.
Smt. Leena Apolin D’Souza in her address appreciated the donation of School Bell made by NSS to the School.
Nearly, Rs. 75,000 worth of asset was created in these 7 days by 98 students. The NSS unit of the college sincerely thanks the villagers for their support and cooperation in organizing the camp.
Though the camp is funded by Govt. of India, the sanctioned amount is not sufficient to meet the expenses of the camp. Hence, the financial support by the college faculty, alumni association of the college and the villagers is worth noting.
Thus Annual Camp added more value to the life of students and camp officers. Experiential learning is the specialty of the NSS Camp. The experience undergone by the students will be cherished in their life.
