Swacchata Summer Internship Programme

The NSS Unit of the college organized a one day Swacchata Summer Internship Programme on July 15, 2018 at Pudu grama panchayath, Bantwal taluk, DK. 75 volunteers with 2 NSS officers participated in the programme. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Ramlan, President Pudu Grama panchayath.Sri. Krishna Kumar Punja Managing trustee of Sevanjali Trust, Farangipet and Rtn.Vinod D’souza and Rtn. Jatin V Attavar, members of Rotary Club Mangalore City were the guests of honor. Sri Punja expressed his happiness about the willingness of the students to participate in Swacchata programme. He said “Service to the society is like serving God.” The main objective of the programme is to know the existing waste management system in grama panchayath limit and also to create awareness about cleanliness in the locality.

In the first part of the programme, students were sent in groups to various wards of Grama panchayath, to conduct a survey, to study about the present system of domestic waste management. In the survey conducted by the students, it was found that many residents disposed their household wastes to the nearby streams and some burnt their household wastes. It was also found that there is no formal system of waste management maintained by the panchayath. The volunteers made an attempt to educate the residents about the impact of unscientific disposal of domestic wastes.

The second part of the programme included swacchata rally. The main objective of the rally was to draw the attention of the mass about impact of unhealthy disposal of waste and plastic menace. The students shouted the slogans quoting “our waste is our responsibility”. Later students conducted a cleanliness drive in the vicinity of Farangipet. Students expressed their unhappiness about the indifference attitude of the shopkeepers of the locality.

The last part of the programme was a street play on waste management. The play was enacted at the Bus Shelter of Farangipet. A good number of public watched the act. The Canara College NSS expresses a sincere thanks to Sevanjali Trust Farangipet, Police Outpost Farangipet and members of Pudu Grama Panchayath for encouraging and other logistic supports.
