Industrial Visit to Morazha Weavers Industrial Co-operative Society Ltd, Kannur

The objective of an industrial visit is to provide an insight regarding internal working of companies. Theoretical knowledge is not enough for a successful professional career. With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides students a practical perspective of the work place. With the objective of enabling practical exposure to business and also to enhance the theoretical knowledge, a one day factory visit cum excursion was organized by the Department of Business Management. 35 students of the final and second year BBM / BBA visited Morazha Weavers Industrial Co-operative Society Limited, located in Kannur, Kerala., on Friday, April 06, 2018.

During the visit, Mr.Gangadharan, the Manager, with his kind gesture and hospitality welcomed each one us to the industry and accompanied us in guiding throughout the visit.  Giving the overview of the Unit, he said the tradition of weaving by hand is a part of the country’s cultural ethos. 95% of the world’s hand woven fabric comes from India.  It has been sustained by transferring skills from one generation to another. We make hand-woven sarees, dress materials, lungi’s, bed sheets and so on… Adding to this he remarked that the culture and traditions of Kerala are exhibited in the weaves of this state which cannot be witnessed anywhere else in the country.

The students got an opportunity to witness the hand weaving processes in plant like spinning, weaving, finishing along with a meaningful interaction with the weavers. Following the industrial visit, the students had a leisure outing to Vismaya Infotainment Centre, an amusement water theme park in Kannur, Kerala. It was truly a wonderful experience for students to visit the industry and gaining some practical insights to hand-weaving processes added with the leisure experience at the waterpark. The evening wrapped up being fun, adventurous, thrilling, refreshing, and rejuvenating and a memorable day for all to enjoy with one another.

Altogether 32 students took part in this excursion. Mr.Hardik P. Chauhan, Academic Class Advisor coordinated the excursion and also accompanied the students along with other faculties Mrs.Dhanyashree and Ms.Priyanka. This visit helped to inculcate a value system among the students.
