Mangalore University NSS Annual Special Camp 2017-18

The annual NSS Camp for the year 2017-18 was held from November 17 to 23 November 2017 at D.K.Z.P.H.P.School, Kodman of Bantwal Taluk. The programme was inaugurated by Sri.SathishNaiga, President, MeremajaluGrama Panchayat. In his speech he expressed his happiness for choosing his Panchayat for annual camp. Sri. C.A Vaman Kamath, Alternate Treasurer of C.H.S association hoisted the N.S.S flag to mark the beginning. In his address he said, through service we can make people to remember us and Service to the mankind is service to god. Sri.M.AnnappaPai, Vice President of C.H.S Association, presided over the inaugural function. The inaugural function was also attended by Sri. M. Kanthappa Shetty, Community Leader of the Panchayat, Dr. Malini. K.V., Principal Canara College and by Smt. JayashreeKarkera, Vice President, MeremajaluGrama Panchayat.

The main shramadhan work was to level the ground for graveyard. The main objective of organising this annual camp:

  • To educate the students to lead a disciplined life.
  • To understand the dignity of labour throughasset creation to the society.
  • To Understand the significance of community living with minimum comforts.

In this 7 days of camp, 4 educational programmes were conducted for the students. A medical camp and a SwachhBharathProgramme was organised for the benefit of the villagers. The educational programme was on the topic Save Nature, Personality development, Street Play a means of communication and stage performance.

The valedictory was held on November 23, 2017 and Sri. N. Shivaprakash, Block Education Officer, Bantwal Taluk was the chief guest. In his address he said that student life is the golden life for experiential learning. Dr. Malini K.V, Principal of the college presided over the function. Sri. RanvindraKambali, Member D.K Zilla Panchayat and Sri. Kanthappa Shetty were present.

Nearly Rs. 70,000 worth of asset was created in these 7 days by 103 students. The NSS unit of the college sincerely thanks the villagers for their support and cooperation in organising the camp.

  • Nearly one lakh worth asset is created to the village.
  • Volunteers learnt to live a life in village with minimum facilities.
  • The Volunteers got an opportunity to understand and exhibit their potential.
  • Students realised the value of food and other basic necessities.

The 7 days camp is to understand the values by experience. It will definitely foster the competency level of the students. Through Shramadhan the youth contributed to the National development. The volunteers learnt community service and understood that service to society is like serving God. Every moment of the camp is an opportunity for excellence. The students learnt the value of respecting the views of others, secularism, food value and value of respecting every individual in spite of their religion.
