Educational field visit to CPCRI Kasaragod.

To broaden students’ horizons and knowledge through the introduction of plant diversity, Apply knowledge and skills acquired in the lecture and laboratory, Educational field visit to CPCRI Kasaragod to Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) was conducted was conducted for 39 students of III BZC on Wednesday August  12,  2015 under the guidance of Dr.M.S.JoishiKumble, Head of the Department of Botany and Ms. Madhushree, Assistant professor and Mr. Prashanth, Lab Assistant as an Innovative Practice of the Department. Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasargod, Kerala State was established in 1916 and was later taken over by the Indian Central Coconut Committee in 1948. It is not only a research centre for coconut, research work is also conducted on areca nut, cocoa etc. This Institute has many varieties of coconut, areca nut and cocoa breeds.

This Institute deals with various techniques like PCR Technique, Tissue culture, Coconut mills for producing varieties of food items. Artificial pollination in plants is also done here to produce disease resistant and healthy varieties of plants. This Centre is also acting as a backbone for agriculturists to put their efforts to get a desired yield by guiding them in proper way

The students along with their teachers also visited Genetic Engineering Lab, Bio-Technology Lab, Coconut Mill, Vermicompost unit and Stores Department. The concerned officials there demonstrated and explained different processes and functioning of the particular department.
