In an effort to blend classroom learning with practical exposure, the Department of Commerce organized a Model Bank Project Competition on October 11, 2025. The initiative aimed to cultivate creativity, innovation, and an applied understanding of banking operations among Final-Year B.Com students.
Each class was challenged to conceptualize and establish their own model bank, reflecting their originality and understanding of modern banking practices. Students enthusiastically transformed their classrooms into simulated banks, complete with customized counters, customer service zones, and digital facilities. They showcased innovative banking products such as advanced ATMs, digital passbook updating machines, automated cash depositors, smart lockers, and novel loan and deposit schemes. The entire setup right from design to execution was funded and managed by the students, demonstrating their commitment and teamwork.
The projects were evaluated by distinguished bankers Mr. Nagesha, who retired in 2020 as Senior Manager, Union Bank of India, and Mr. Manamohan, who retired in 2022 as Assistant General Manager, Union Bank of India. Both judges commended the students for their creativity, conceptual clarity, and professionalism in presenting realistic banking models.
Among the outstanding performances, III B.Com A secured the first prize, followed by III B.Com C in second place, and III B.Com B in third place. The Model Bank Project Competition focused on fostering innovation, promoting technological awareness, enhancing practical learning, and striving for excellence among students.
