The I B.Com A class of Canara College visited Varanashi Organic Farms, Adyanadka, on October 7, 2025. The journey began at 8:30 a.m. from the Canara College campus. Upon arrival, the students and faculty members were warmly welcomed by Dr. Varanashi Krishnamoorthi, the owner of the farm. He gave an insightful presentation about the farm’s sustainable initiatives and its efforts to promote organic agriculture.
Students explored various sections of the farm and learned about commercial crops such as Cocoa, Areca nut, Pepper, Jackfruit, and Coconut trees. They also witnessed the functioning of biogas plants, compost units, sprinkler systems, and water management techniques, which provided practical knowledge of modern eco-friendly farming methods.
This outreach programme was coordinated by four faculty members Mrs. Dejamma A, Head of the Department and Programme Head of Commerce Department, Ms. Maneesha D, Class Mentor of I B.Com A, Mrs. Ashalatha, and Mrs. Megha, Faculty members in the Department of Commerce. Their guidance and supervision ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the visit.
Prof. Dejamma A. and Ms. Maneesha D,and Athmiya of I BCOM A actively participated in the Grafting Technique demonstration, which provided hands-on learning exposure for the students. Ms. Niveditha, the estate manager, guided the group and explained the daily operations of the farm.
The farm’s volunteer programme attracted participants from countries like Germany, Japan, and Israel, enabling students to interact with global volunteers and exchange ideas about sustainable agriculture. The simple yet delicious organic meal served at the farm, along with scenic tree houses, mud cottages, floating guest houses, and swimming pools, made the visit enjoyable and memorable.
A total of 58 students actively participated in this outreach programme. The visit successfully blended education with recreation, giving students a practical understanding of sustainability in agriculture. The outreach programme focused on promoting environmental awareness, experiential learning, global understanding, and the quest for excellence through sustainable agricultural education.
