The Department of Hindi celebrated Hindi Day on September 19, 2025, in the Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Seminar Hall. Sri. Rajesh D. Sharma, Deputy General Manager (Compliance & Assurance), Bank of Baroda, Zonal Office, Mangaluru , attended as the chief guest for the Hindi Day celebration at Canara College. He inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp and spoke about the importance of the Hindi language. He mentioned that Hindi is a simple and beautiful language that unites the people of the country. He emphasized that the use of Hindi has gained prominence in sports channels and news media, and hence it’s our responsibility to learn and respect it properly. The program was attended by esteemed guests, including Dr. P. Balamurugan, General Manager (Official Language), Bank of Baroda, Zonal Office, Mangaluru. Dr. Premalatha V., the principal of the College, presided over the program and said that Hindi is a rich language in terms of culture and heritage. She emphasized the need to preserve, promote, and respect Hindi by incorporating it into our daily lives.
As a part of the celebration, our college, along with Bank of Baroda, hosted various competitions such as the Hindi Essay competition, the Hindi Elocution competition, and the Hindi Patriotic Group Singing competition. Smt. Sujatha G. Nayak, Head of the Hindi Department, announced the list of prize winners of various competitions. Overall, 22 students participated in the Hindi Essay competition, 14 students participated in the Hindi Elocution competition, and five teams of 5 members participated in the Hindi Patriotic Group Singing competition. The Officials of Bank of Baroda distributed certificates and prizes to the winners.
Students such as Shreya, Shwetha, and Harshitha presented a soulful rendition of Sant Kabir Das couplets, while student Aisiri recited a poem composed by the Head of the Department. The program was well managed and coordinated by the students, with Nidhi Shenoy welcoming the guests, Shwetha Nayak and her team offering prayers, Nitu Raj Purohith proposing a vote of thanks, and Nandini anchoring the event. Smt. Chetana, Head of the Sanskrit Department and Smt. Keerthana Bhat, an English Lecturer, and were also present at the event.
