The ‘Drug Awareness, Cyber Crime & Traffic Awareness Programme’ was jointly organized by the NSS Units and Anti-Drug Cell of Canara College in collaboration with Lions & Leo Club, Kadri Hills, Mangaluru on September 18, 2025.The event was presided over by Principal Dr. Premalatha V, who stressed the importance of building a responsible student community through such awareness programmes. The inauguration was done by Ln. G. Prashanth Pai, who spoke on the value of collective efforts in promoting social well-being.
The key resource person of the programme was Mr. Santhosh Padil, ASI (Traffic), Mangalore City, who delivered an insightful talk on Drug Awareness and Traffic Awareness. He highlighted the ill effects of drug abuse on physical and mental health, urging students to stay away from addictive substances. On traffic awareness, he stressed the importance of obeying road rules, wearing helmets and seatbelts, avoiding over-speeding, and responsible driving practices. Mr. Srinivas P.M., Assistant Professor, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management spoke on Cyber Crime Awareness. He educated students about online frauds, identity theft, phishing attacks, and misuse of social media. He also shared practical tips on protecting personal data and being responsible digital citizens. A total of 93 volunteers participated in the programme.
The programme was efficiently coordinated by Mrs. Sushama C. and Mrs. Smitha M. (NSS Programme Officers) along with Mrs. Laxmi Hegde and Mr. Karthik (Assistant NSS Programme Officers).The initiative strongly resonated with the core NSS values of Contribution to National Development and Inculcation of Value Systems among students.
