The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Canara College, in association with Seva Bharathi (R.), Kanyadi – Seva Dham and the Rotary Club, organized an ‘Awareness Programme on Spinal Cord Injury’ on September 16, 2025, at 12:15 P.M. The programme was graced by Chief Guest Rtn. Dr. Ravishankar Rao, Assistant Governor, Rotary District 3181, who highlighted the importance of awareness and community participation in preventing and managing spinal cord injuries.
The technical session was conducted by the Resource Person Mr. Charan Kumar, Senior Manager, Seva Bharathi, who delivered an informative talk on the causes, preventive measures, first aid, treatment, and rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries. His session provided participants with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by affected individuals and the role of society in supporting them. A total of 103 volunteers actively attended and benefited from the programme.
On the following day, September 17, 2025, on account of World Spinal Cord Injury Day and the 8th Anniversary of Seva Dham, our NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the Wheelchair Rally from 10.30 A.M. to 12.30 P.M. The rally, organized by Seva Bharathi and Rotary Club, began from Wenlock District Hospital and concluded at University College, Mangalore, where our 30 NSS volunteers along with Assistant Programme Officer Mrs. Laxmi Hegde actively participated, raising awareness about spinal cord injuries, inclusivity, and the importance of supporting differently-abled individuals.
The programme was efficiently coordinated by Mrs. Sushama C. and Mrs. Smitha M. (NSS Programme Officers) along with Mrs. Laxmi Hegde and Mr. Karthik (Assistant Programme Officers).
