Training on Registration as Civil Defence Warriors

With the objectives to create awareness and encourage youth participation in Civil Defence preparedness and national service, the National Service Scheme Units, and the Youth Red Cross Unit of our college, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Mangaluru, successfully conducted a training session on “Registration as Civil Defence Warriors” on May 24, 2025 at 1.30 P.M. in the College Seminar Hall for the NSS and YRC volunteers.

Mr. Ullas K T K, District Youth Officer, My Bharat, Bengaluru and Mr. Jagadish K, Administrative Officer, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangaluru were the Resource Persons of the training program.

Both shared valuable insights on the role of youth in civil defence and community resilience. Mr. Ullas emphasized the need for structured volunteerism and the potential impact of youth-led initiatives in safeguarding society. He also briefed the volunteers on the technical aspects of registration and the operational framework of Civil Defence Warriors.

Further, Mr. Ullas explained that a Civil Defence Volunteer is a person who registers with the Ministry of Home Affairs to assist with emergency preparedness, disaster response, and public safety. Registration can be done through the MY Bharat portal or Civil Defence Directorate website. It is open to Indian citizens 18 years and above. Volunteers can help with various tasks during emergencies, including rescue operations and evacuation, first aid, traffic management, crowd control, and other public safety initiatives.

The session concluded with an interactive Q & A, followed by an expression of gratitude to the dignitaries for their guidance and motivation.By the end of the session,37 volunteers successfully registered as Civil Defence Warriors under the supervision of the NSS Programme Officer Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat, and the Youth Red Cross Conveners Mrs. Roopashree K. P. and Mrs. Rashmi. The program marked a significant step in fostering a culture of preparedness and service among youth.
