The Department of Botany and Zoology organized Biological study field visit to School of Life Sciences, MCBR, Manipal Anatomy and Pathology museum, TMA Pai planetarium, Manipal, Mahathma Gandhi Memorial Botanical garden and Zoological museum, Udupi on May 21, 2025. A group of 30 students was accompanied by two teaching faculty Mrs. Sushama. C, Head, Department of Zoology and Ms. Madhushree, Head, Department of Botany. The journey started at 9 A.M. from Canara College, Mangalore.
In the morning session, the students first visited School of Life Sciences, Manipal, where students got any opportunity to visit various life sciences related laboratories where they learnt about various instrumentation techniques.
Next students made a visit to Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research, where they learnt about the various biological products with a therapeutic potential in humans, mainly in the areas of cell, gene, protein, nanotechnology, regenerative medicine and bio-materials.
In the afternoon session, first students visited TMA Pai planetarium, Manipal where students got a chance to view the glimpse of the space-related discoveries that humankind has made till now. Next students visited Manipal Anatomy and Pathology museum, which helped students in enhancing knowledge, fostering curiosity, promoting scientific awareness, and encouraging critical thinking and creativity.
Last students visited Mahathma Gandhi Memorial Botanical garden and Zoological museum, Udupi where Dr. Gayathri pai taxonomist explained in detail the taxonomic features and medicinal values of plants present and Mr. Santhosh, Assistant professor in Zoology explain students about the various animal specimens preserved, its features and anatomy.
The educational field visit met all its objectives as it was designed to provide knowledge about scientific research, plants and animal species highlighting floral and fauna diversity of Dakshina Kannada and Western Ghats.
