April 12, 2025

The III BCA students of the Department of Computer Science and Applications conducted an extension activity on “Basics of Computers and Cyber Security” between February and April 2025. This initiative aimed to promote digital literacy and awareness of cyber safety among school students in and around Mangalore.
As part of this outreach program, the III BCA students visited various schools in the region and engaged with students through interactive sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. The sessions focused on the following key areas:
• Fundamentals of Computers: Introduction to computer hardware and software, basic operations, and practical applications.
• Microsoft Office Tools: Basic usage of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for academic purposes.
• Cyber Security Awareness: Educating students on safe internet practices, password protection, identifying cyber threats, and responsible digital behavior.
The sessions were conducted in an easy-to-understand format tailored to suit the age and background of school students. Demonstrations and real-life examples were used to enhance understanding and encourage active participation.
This opportunity provided the III BCA students the chance to apply their learning in a real-world context. The department appreciates the enthusiastic participation of the students and the support extended by the partnering schools in making this activity a success.

Students enhanced their communication, leadership, and public speaking skills by teaching complex topics in a simple and engaging manner.
