The Department of Computer Science and Applications organized a one-day Wikisource Workshop, “Contribute to Open Knowledge,” in association with The Kannada Language Project, supported by the Wikimedia Foundation and CIS-A2K, Bengaluru, on March 4, 2025, at the Computer Laboratory, Canara College.
Wikisource is a free online library that contains digitized texts, mainly in the public domain, and other works that allow for free sharing. Its mission is to provide access to historical and scholarly works that are freely available for everyone to read, share, and contribute.
The workshop aimed to familiarize students with the significance and functionality of Wikisource, highlighting how active participation can contribute to both personal and academic growth.

Mrs. Jayabharathi K.P., Head of the Department of PG Studies in Computer Applications, captivated the participants by explaining how contributing to Wikisource could serve as a gateway to recognition and achievement for students. She encouraged them to view this as an opportunity not only to gain visibility but also to contribute to society by sharing knowledge. Her words resonated with the students, inspiring them to take a proactive approach to their academic pursuits. Principal Dr. Premalatha V. Pai extended her best wishes for the success of the workshop. Mrs. Babitha S., Head of the Department of Computer Science and Applications and organizer of the workshop, briefed the gathering and delivered an insightful presentation on the significance of Wikisource. Sri Anoop Rao, an Admin and Technical Editor on Wikimedia, was the resource person for the workshop.
In conclusion, the one-day Wikisource workshop at Canara College was a resounding success. It not only provided valuable insights into the platform’s significance and functionality but also served as a catalyst for students to actively engage in knowledge sharing. With the enthusiastic support of the Principal, faculty, and college administration, many students are expected to embark on a journey of contribution and learning through Wikisource. Total of 26 students and 03 faculty members were benefited from this workshop.
