Workshop on Bioinformatics and Molecular Techniques

February 28, 2025

The Department of Zoology, Canara College, in collaboration with the Department of PG Biotechnology, St. Aloysius College (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, organized a one-day workshop on Bioinformatics and Molecular Techniques on February 28, 2025. This hands-on training program was designed for B.Sc. students to enhance their practical knowledge and technical skills in advanced biological research methodologies for Molecular Techniques, Bioinstrumentation, and Bioinformatics. A batch of 17 students from II and III B.Sc. Zoology participated in the workshop under the guidance of faculty members. The sessions were conducted by experts from the Department of PG Biotechnology, St. Aloysius College, and covered the following key topics:

Session Highlights:

  • Restriction Enzyme Digestion: Practical demonstration of DNA fragmentation using restriction enzymes.
  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR): Training on DNA amplification techniques and mutation detection.
  • Agarose Gel Electrophoresis: Demonstration of DNA separation and visualization methods.
  • Bioinformatics Tools: Introduction to databases and computational techniques for genetic analysis.

The workshop included interactive sessions, live demonstrations, and hands-on practice to ensure that students gained real-time laboratory experience in molecular biology and bioinformatics.
