The Centre for Post Graduate Studies in Computer Applications (M.C.A.), in association with TechByheart, Cochin, organized a workshop titled “CYBER SMART – 2025” for First and Second-year MCA students on January 13, 2025, at 9:30 A.M. in Smt. Ratna S. Shenoy Memorial Hall to provide insight into the key concepts in Cyber Security such as network security, ethical hacking, data protection, cyber threats, and the importance of secure systems in today’s digital world.
Madam Dhanya N. Nayak, ACP South, Mangaluru, was invited as the Chief Guest. However, due to an emergency, she deputed Mr. Pramod Gaonkar, Police Sub-Inspector, Konaje Police Station, to attend the event on her behalf.
The programme commenced with a prayer by a team of MCA students, invoking the blessings of the Almighty. Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, Canara College welcomed the gathering. In his address, Mr. Pramod Gaonkar emphasized the alarming rise in cybercrime and how even educated individuals often fall prey to it. He urged students to be cautious while conducting online transactions, downloading unfamiliar content, or sharing confidential information with unverified sources. He stressed the importance of being well-informed and vigilant in cyberspace.
Mr. Sreenath Gopinath, Director of TechByheart, provided an engaging session on the history of ethical hacking and outlined the contributions of TechByheart in the field of cybercrime prevention and investigation. His insights highlighted the importance of ethical hacking as a tool for cyber security. Also, it provided valuable insight into the evolving field of cyber security.CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent of Canara College, delivered the presidential address, encouraging students to deepen their knowledge in the field of cyber security, which he described as an essential skill in today’s digital landscape.
Mrs. Jayabharathi K.P., Head of the Department of M.C.A., proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, guests, and participants. Dr. Deepthi Nayak, Administrative Officer, and Mr. Shivananda Shenoy, Manager, were also present on the occasion.The formal programme was smoothly conducted and compered by Mrs. Shailaja Kumary T.G.
The workshop was then continued by Mr. Dhanoop Ravindran from TechByheart, who delivered an informative and interactive presentation. He covered key topics including: Categories of cyber crime, how hackers collect information, the concept of ethical hacking, precautionary measures to prevent hacking 75 students from First and Second-year M.C.A. actively participated in this highly effective session.• This activity strived to foster global competencies and quest for excellence among the students.
