As a part of embracing the spirit of Deepavali, the festival of lights, NSS volunteers at Canara College came together to celebrate the occasion in a unique and meaningful way. Instead of the usual festivities, the volunteers chose to mark the celebration with service and devotion by cleaning and decorating the NSS room — a symbolic gesture of welcoming Goddess Lakshmi, the harbinger of prosperity, health, and wealth.
During the auspicious day of Deepavali, on November 02, 2024, a thorough cleaning of the NSS room was carried out by 42 NSS volunteers, ensuring every corner was neat, tidy, and organized. A beautiful decorative rangoli was created at the entrance, enhancing the festive ambiance. Mango leaves were traditionally tied at the door entrance as a symbol of purity and prosperity.
Volunteers dressed in traditional attire and gathered to sing devotional bhajans and offer prayers, invoking the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. This Deepavali celebration was not just a festival observed but a lesson in values — reinforcing the NSS motto “Not Me, But You” and reminding all of the power of selfless service and devotion.
Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat and Mrs. Sushama C, the NSS Programme Officers, and Mr. Shubham Kulal and Mrs. Laxmi Hegde, the NSS Assistant NSS Programme Officers coordinated the program alongwith the 42 NSS volunteers, with zeal and enthusiasm, to make it a joyous celebration.
