‘Chem-Veg-Art’ making chemistry models

October 19, 2024

The Chemistry Department organized a unique and interactive activity, the ‘Chem-Veg-Art’ making chemistry models using fruits and vegetables, on October 19, 2024, in the Chemistry Laboratory. The event was designed to involve I BSc-PCM and BZC students in crafting chemistry models, apparatus, or structures of chemical compounds using fruits and vegetables.

A total of 47 students participated in the competition, forming 8 teams, each tasked with creating innovative models from the chemistry concepts. The participants used various fruits and vegetables creatively to represent the parts and mechanisms of the models, showcasing a blend of scientific knowledge and artistic expression. They have prepared interesting and complex experiments such as steam distillation, Daniell cell, Bunsen burner, and more.

The competition was judged by Mrs. Sushama, Head of the Zoology Department, and Ms. Madhushree, Head of the Botany Department. The event was highly interactive and enjoyable, with students demonstrating enthusiasm and teamwork throughout. The Chem Veg Art-Making Competition was a resounding success, leaving students inspired and motivated to explore chemistry beyond textbooks. The department looks forward to organizing similar activities in the future.

Winners of the activity are as follows:

I Prize: Team 1

II Prize: Team 2

III Prize: Team 5
