The National Service Scheme of Canara College, with the objective of contributing towards the governmental initiative- “Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2024”, on September 20, 2024 conducted “Healthy Baby Survey” at Canara Nanda Gokul, Dongerekery and Canara Balawadi at 10:00 A.M. The primary aim was to assess measurable progress in the playschool children, identity underweight prevalence among them and provide healthier options to prevent malnutrition. The useful survey was planned and conducted by 08 NSS volunteers benefitting 108 playschool kids.
The governmental flagship event “POSHAN MAAH 2024” aims to eliminate malnutrition in children from the age of 0-6 years. Malnutrition early in life can manifest in many forms such as low birth weight, stunting, wasting, and anaemia. In order to strengthen the governmental initiative, the NSS volunteers of Canara College organized an extension activity wherein they checked the BMI (Body Mass Index), by measuring the height and weight, of each playschool kid. Then the kids with a perfect BMI were given “Healthy Baby” badges. Also nutritional jaggery chikkis were distributed among the children. This activity created happiness and provided a sense of satisfaction to the volunteers.
