Awareness Lecture On “Social Media – Good & Bad”

The NSS Units of Canara College, in collaboration with Lions and Leo Club, Kadri Hills, Mangalore, organized an awareness lecture on the topic “Social Media – Good & Bad” on August 21, 2024, in the College Seminar Hall. The resource person for the session was Sri Shreenivas P. M., Assistant Professor, Sahyadri College of Management and Technology, Mangalore.

The program commenced with a formal introduction of the guests. Dr. Premlatha V., Principal of Canara College, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Sri P. Ratnakar, Treasurer of the Lions Club, Kadri Hills, Mangalore, presided over the event, and Lion Prashanth Pai coordinated the programme effectively.

The keynote lecture by Sri Shreenivas P. M. was highly informative and engaging. He presented a balanced view on the benefits and pitfalls of social media. He emphasized how social media, when used wisely, can be a powerful tool for personal and professional development. However, he also cautioned against issues like cyber bullying, misinformation, addiction, and privacy concerns.

The programme was well received by the 100 NSS Volunteers and other attendees, and the interactive session that followed helped clarify doubts and foster discussion on relevant issues. The NSS Programme Officers Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat and Mrs. Sushama C. coordinated the programme and also expressed their gratitude to the Lions and Leo Club for their collaboration and support in making the event successful. This activity strived to contribute to national development and inculcate a value system among students.
