Martyrs’ Day 2020

The Student Welfare Council in association with Library & Information Centre celebrated Martyr’s day (Shaheed Diwas) to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi and all the freedom fighters who fought for the freedom, welfare and progress of our country on January 30, 2020 in the Library Hall.

Ms. Bindiya S. Shet, President, SWC, welcomed the guests and the gathering. Dr. Kalpana J Prabhu in her keynote address, she said “Young Indians should always follow Gandhiji’s principle – Simple Living, High Thinking and not to follow the seven social sins: Politeness without principles, Commerce without morality, Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Science without humanity and Worship without sacrifice”.

Dr. K V Malini, Principal in her presidential address, urged students to read autobiography by M.K. Gandhi, ‘My Experiments with Truth’ and inculcate at least one of his qualities in life. Mr. Boodeppa, I B Sc (PCM) and Ms. Madhumitha, II B Com shared their views on Gandhian thoughts. Ms. Athmika, III B Com, proposed the Vote of Thanks. At 11.00 AM two minutes silence was observed in the memory of those who were martyred in India’s freedom struggle.

Student Welfare Mentors, staff members and members of Student Welfare Council and Readers Club were present. Books on Gandhi and other freedom fighters were exhibited in the library for the students on this occasion.Altogether 46 students and 10 staff members took part in this programme.
