47th Annual Sports Day

The 47th Annual Sports Day of Canara College was held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Mangala Stadium, Mangalore. The programme began with the students of various classes headed by their respective captains’ march with enthusiasm to the beat of the band.

The Chief Guest received guard of honour and hoisted the college flag on this occasion. The dignitaries were escorted to the stage by Mr. Avinash Physical Education Director of the college. The stage programme commenced with an invocation by the college prayer team. Dr. K. V. Malini, Principal, gave the welcome address and introduced the Chief Guest. The Sports Day was declared open by the dignitaries releasing the Doves as ‘A Message of Peace’. Mr. Pratham Bhandary, Sports Secretary, administered the oath to the students.

The Chief Guest Mr. M. Premnath Ullal, International Kabaddi and Rajyotsava  Awardee, gave the inaugural address. He inspired the students to participate in sports wholeheartedly and also opined that sports should be imbibed in the education system like in western countries, which is lacking in India. He expressed his happiness and felt honoured to be a part of this event. He advised the students that Canara College being a reputed Institute in the city for academic achievements, the students should excel in sports as well.

Mr. Basti Purushotham Shenoy, Correspondent, Canara Kannada Girls’ High School and Member of CHS Association, Mangalore, in his speech appreciated the Principal, the Physical Education Director the staff and the students for their leadership qualities. He spoke on the physical fitness and the importance of sports among the student community. He concluded by wishing the event a grand success.

Mr. Avinash, Physical Education Director, of the college, Mr.Ignatius Navil Noronha graced the occasion along with the other dignitaries on the dais. Ms. Thrupthi  Gangamma, Sports Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Pramod Kumar M, Dept. of English, compered the programme.
