Session on ‘Rain Water Harvesting’

Canara College Youth Red Cross society and NSS conducted an informative session on ‘Rain water harvesting’ on August 27, 2019.

Mr. Kalbavi RajendraRao, Project Director, D.K. Nirmithi Kendra, NITK was the resource person. In his session he introduced the various techniques of water harvesting and said, Rain water harvesting is a technique of collection and storage of rainwater into natural reservoirs or tanks, or the infiltration of surface water into subsurface aquifers. Mr. Kalbhavi urged that accumulation of rain water can help recharge local aquifers, reduce urban flooding and most importantly ensure water availability in water -scarce zones.

He also called students as well as conveners to adopt rain water harvesting techniqueson  college campus. Dr.K.V.Malini, Principal, Canara College, presided over the session. In her presidential address she thanked Mr.Kalbavi Rajendra for his informative session.

43 Youth Red Cross volunteers and 114 NSS Volunteers attendedthe session. Youth Red Cross Staff conveners Mrs. Smitha M and Mrs. Roopashri K.P. and NSS officers Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. and Ms. Vindya B.B coordinated the program. Teaching and non-teaching staff were also present at the occasion.
