Workshop on Kannada Wikipedia

Department of Computer Science and Applications, Canara College, Mangaluru  in association with Centre for Internet Society (CIS A2K), Bengaluru and Karawali Wiki medians User Group, Mangaluru organized a two day  workshop on Kannada Wikipedia on July 27-28, 2019 at Canara College to the students and members of faculty.

Sri. M. Ranganatha Bhat., honorary secretary of the Canara High School Association inaugurated the workshop was by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural speech he pointed out the significance of Wikipedia and said, “Contributions of articles to Wikipedia will benefit students in particular and society in general.”

Sri. Gopalakrishna A., The chief guest of the inaugural ceremony, said, “his participation in the Wikipedia Education programme has helped him to pursue his career in the CIS centre and the students need to participate in workshops of this kind organized by the college and make the best use of the opportunities.”

Guest of Honor Ms. Dhanalakshmi K.T Economic Analyst, Northern Trust, Bengaluru affirmed that working with Wikipedia provides a professional experience to the students. Dr. Vishwanatha Badikana, President, Karawali Wikimedians User Group, Mangaluru delivered the keynote address.

Sri. Praveen Prabhu, President, Canara College Alumni, shared his experiences with Wikipedia. Dr. Premalatha V., Principal in-charge presided over the function. She conveyed her best wishes to the organizers and participants.  Mrs. Jayabharathi K. P., HOD, Department of Computer Science and Applications welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Babitha Shetty, Convenor of the two day workshop delivered the vote of thanks. Mrs. Thara Kumari, Associate Professor, Department of Kannada, compered the inaugural programme.

The inaugural function was followed by the practical session. The students from Canara College, St. Aloysius College, Govt. College, Ajjarakadu, Udupi., actively participated and benefited from this workshop. Besides students, teaching staff of Canara College, St. Aloysius College, Sri Ramakrishna College also benefited from this programme. The faculty members of the department and the members of the Karawali Wikimedians User Group were present on both the days.
