International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

A seminar on International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was organized by the Commissioner of Police Mangalore at Commissioner of police seminar hall, Pandeshwar on June 26, 2018. 11 NSS students including 2 officers attended the programme. The Police Commissioner, Sri. Suresh made introductory remark and in his address he said “Drug Trafficking is worth 600 billion US Dollar businesses next to armed trading” highlighting the severity of the problem

Dr. Mahabaleshwar Hegde, the chief resource person of the day said that “Everyday in India around 55,000 students starts smoking”. He also highlighted the economic, social and psychological aspects of drug consumption. He also made a note that, UGC has to consider drug intake as a disease and as a crime.

Smt. Lidia Lobo, from Drug de-addiction centre was also the resource person. She came with the theme, “Listen First” highlighting the need to listen to the children by their parents and teachers. The students of Canara PU College presented a skit conveying the problems of drug consumption. The department of police administered oath on the occasion.
