Workshop on ‘Leave Trading System – A Tool to conquer Absenteeism through Self-Discipline’

Understanding the growing challenges faced by the HEIs and also to develop an alternative solution for the same, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the College organized a Half day Workshop on “Leave Trading System – A Tool to conquer Absenteeism through Self-Discipline” on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 9:30 AM, in the College Seminar Hall. Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna Sharma, Professor, JKSH Institute of Management, Nitte and Ideator of Leave Trading System was the Resource Person.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Sri Basti Purushotham Shenoy, Correspondent, Canara Higher Primary School, Mangaluru. In his inaugural address, congratulating the college for organizing the workshop on the said theme, he also gave a piece of advice to the teachers to retrospect the reasons for the student absenteeism and find a solution for the same. He said that absenteeism is a major problem of all higher educational institutions and students who miss classes are likely to lag behind in academics as well.

Guest of Honor Prof. Steevan Robert Tellis, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Business Administration, Srinivas Institute of Technology shared his experience of introducing the Leave Trading System at their department. He also explained the mechanism of implementing the system and how it helped to reduce student absenteeism.
Guest of Honor Sri M. Ranganath Bhat, Honorary Secretary, C.H.S Association, was present on the occasion.

Principal Dr. K. V. Malini, in her presidential address said that there is an intense need for the educational institutions to strategically deal with the rising issues and challenges of student absenteeism. This workshop is therefore relevant and meaningful to suggest an alternative to deal the challenges amicably.

Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna Sharma, Professor, JKSH Institute of Management, Nitte and Ideator of Leave Trading System, facilitated the workshop as the key resource person. In his session, he said that Leave

Trading System is the most effective method which can be used to reduce the absenteeism of students in colleges in an automatic manner using market mechanism. At present all the colleges using age old methods to reduce absenteeism and are fighting a losing war against absenteeism. He enlightened the various benefits of leave trading system and how it could be used to transform the students’ mindset.

Dr. Shantala Vishwasa, Head, Dept. of Sanskrit, rendered the prayer. Vice Principal Dr. Manohar S. Joishi Kumble welcomed the guests and gathering. Ms. Raksha R. Acharya, Faculty, Dept. of Commerce introduced the Resource Persons. IQAC Coordinator Mrs. Premalatha V., proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sandhya Bhandary, Faculty, Dept. of Business Administration compered the formal programme.

The workshop was successful in laying new directions of hope to curb the growing challenges of student absenteeism. The session strived to achieve the core value of inculcating value system.
