CAN FEST-2016 “ETHOS”- Two Days National Level Inter-Collegiate Commerce and Management Fest

CANFEST 2016, a two day National Level Undergraduate Inter-collegiate Fest     encompassing the domains of Commerce & Management, was organized on February 1 and 2, 2016 at T.V Raman Pai Convention Center

“ETHOS” so named, was with a motto to inculcate within the students a real sense of the rights and wrongs, dos and don’ts in the corporate undertaking which is revolving around both individuals moral values and legal understanding of the country.

Can Fest 2016, “ETHOS” a two day theme based Commerce and Management Fest of Canara College Mangaluru was inaugurated by Sri A.B. Ibrahim, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Mangaluru, on 1st February 2016 at. T.V. Raman Pai Convention Centre.

In his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner gave a call to the educated youth to understand the hierarchy and the roles to be played by the designated civil servants in the constitutional system.  He also emphasised on the responsibility of the youth to develop their overall personality and make a substantial contribution to the society and the nation at large.

Sri Ramdas Kini, renowned entrepreneur,  Mangaluru, the Chief Guest of the function in his address stated that the perfect character building is utmost important for a healthy society.  Sri C.A.S.S. Kamath, President of Canara High School Association who presided over the function advised the participants, the importance of retaining and practising the ethics in business and managerial activities  and wished the participating teams.

Sri M.Ranganath Bhat, Hon.Secretary, Canara High School Association was also present  at  the function. Sri Ignatius Navil Noronha HOD of Commerce Depatment in his address gave a call to youngsters to participate in a competitive spirit.

Prof. Lavina Norohna, Staff convenor, welcomed the guests.  Mr. Nishan Kotian student convenor briefed on the theme of the Fest.

The Trophies of the fest were unveiled by the Deputy Commissioner.

Staff convener Prof. Samarth Shenoy, Prof. Dhanyashree, Prof. Dhanya Shet, and student convener Kum. Aishwarya Acharya were also present.  Kum. Niveditha Nayak was the master of ceremony Kum. Amritha Hebbar proposed the vote of thanks.

Sri I. B. Ibrahim spoke about the power of youth stating that “If every youth of the country decide to stop something from happening no one will dare to continue doing it”. Sri. Gurpur Ramdas Kini in his key note highlighted on the power of self-“If you are determined about achieving it, you will succeed provided you work for the success.”

As the mission of the college states “To guide and prepare the students in choosing career”, Canfest is one such medium where both the organizing and the participating students experience the scenario and challenges of the real corporate world. The 24th year of Canfest pitched upon the major areas of the corporate undertaking. The events were as follows:

  • ALPHA- Precise, Strong and Ahead of ALL (The Best Manager)
  • ARTISTA- Creativity Creates Impression (The Marketing Manager)
  • IMPERATOR- Hire, Train, Retain (The Human Resource Manager)
  • R.O TECTOR- Contour the Ever Elusive (The Public Relation Officer)
  • FINATIX- It’s not Just Money (The Finance Manager)
  • BRAINS& WITS- Pick One’s Brain ( The Business Quiz)
  • WORDS SMITH- You can never be Silent ( The Journalist)
  • EYE-SHOT- The eye should learn to listen before it looks.
  • WOCS- Wolf of Can Street ( Investment Related event)

Along with these individual event, Canfest also concentrated on the Group Dynamics by posing a group challenge named as PROLOGUE an ice-breaker event with a theme SATHYA MEVA JAYATE.

The Canfest had 10 enthusiastic teams representing various colleges out of which 3 were outstation colleges.

Hard efforts were made by the student organizers in introducing events like the mock- stock, preparing and reconciling the books of accounts, handling the allegations, preparing marketing and promotional strategies of the products, handling the risk and the stress and so on which is commonly in the picture of the business. These events not only helped the participants to learn and imbibe the blend of business but also benefitted the organizers as they learnt the art of planning, organizing and executing effectively and co-ordination therein.

After all the dedication and determination, the two day mega event was ready for its official sign off. The Valedictory ceremony began at 4:30p.m with the Guest of Honour Sri. Ashray Bhandary, Managing Partner School Book Company presided by the principal Dr. K. V Malini, Mrs. Pushpalatha, HOD Management Dept., the Staff and Student Convenors. The guest enlightened the importance of extracurricular along with the academics so as to come out as real corporate material.

The Overall Championship was bagged by the St. Aloysius College (BBM), Mangaluru and the Runners Trophy was bagged by the Christ University, Bengaluru.

As the saying goes “All is well that ends well”, the crown of victory may be taken by few but definitely the crown of knowledge was worn by all the enthusiastic participants.

The final closure of CANFEST-2016, ETHOS, was after the National Anthem.
