Report on EMP’ORIO’-14

From the last year, the Commerce and Management Association has introduced conducting a college level commerce and management fest, for the first year students of all the streams. The event was conceptualized in such a manner where the participants were judged on the basis of mental, physical and communication skills. For this year the event was named as EMP’ORIO 2014. It was held on 4th of July 2014, Friday.

The inauguration of EMP’ORIO 2014 was at 9:00 a.m. by our Principal Prof. M. Satish Bhat along with the staff conveners and the office bearers, declared EMP’ORIO 2014 ‘open’. He then addressed the students through his inspirational words where he puts forward an example of Mrs. Smrithi Irani who is not highly qualified but stands today as the Nation’s H.R.D. minister, wherein she proves that it is not important to be qualified but all it matters is about the ability.

Eighteen teams registered which included students of evening college, Commerce, Management, B.Sc. and B.CA.

At the time of registration, the teams which consists of six members each were asked to split up into a team of two where the first stream was for finance, the second one for H.R., and the remaining for marketing. They were then asked to decide a member to represent their team for the vocabulary round. All the three streams were conducted simultaneously in three different class rooms at 10:00 a.m. after the inauguration.

Finance:

This round was conducted in room no. 21 where the participants had to blow the balloons as well as had to solve various aspects relating to finance. While one participant had to play with the balloon the other had to solve the problems and had to switch simultaneously. The participants were given an hour time to complete the task.

Human Resource:

The rounds where conducted at room no. 9 where the participant had to throw a paper ball into the bucket and the more number of catches into the bucket, more the points. The next round was to arrange the scrambled words and IQ questions relating to HR.

Marketing:

The rounds where conducted at room no. 8 where the participants had to undergo through three main marketing heads. The first round was related to taglines and jingles. One of the participants had to collect the clues and the other had to answer it in the crossword. The second round was based on guessing the product’s brand and the round was called as dumb-shrats. The next round was called as roller-coaster. Where one participant read the question and the other had to guess the brand ambassador.

The scores of all the three rounds were based on their performance and the rounds came to an end by 11:00 a.m. After a break of thirty minutes the vocabulary round commenced in the seminar hall where in a participant from each team had to speak on the situation given to him. Mr. Samarth Shenoy, the staff convener of the management association judged the round. This round was scheduled to end at 12:45p.m. Then the participants were given half an hour time for their lunch and were asked to reassemble at 1:15 p.m.

Based on the cumulative judgement criteria, five teams out of the eighteen teams qualified for the afternoon session. There was an introductory round where a participant from each team had to pick a chit which had the name of a famous personality and the remaining participants of the team had to guess it by asking him questions with the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers and the game was called as “ Z-13”.

Each of the five teams was given respective cases and the time allotted for preparation was 25 minutes to the products chosen by them. They were given 10 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for rebuttal and the judges for this round was Mr. Vinayak Shet, faculty of commerce and Mr. Samarth Shenoy, faculty of management. The final round of EMP’ORIO 2014 came to an end at 3:55 p.m.

The participants were asked to give their feedback. They expressed EMP’ORIO 2014 as a platform which brought them knowledge along with enjoyment. The valedictory function commenced at 4:00 p.m. in the seminar hall and the ceremony was presided by Principal Prof. M. Satish Bhat along with the HOD of commerce Mr. I.N.Noronha and HOD of Management Mrs. Pushpalatha. Staff conveners and the student conveners had their presence too. Later Pushpalatha ma’am and Norohna sir inspired students by telling that participating is more important than winning. If you aim at the moon and shoot , if not the moon you will at least land up among the starts and “if you say I can, I can and if you say I can’t, I can’t” which means that possibility lies in oneself.

The participation certificates were distributed among all the participants by Mrs. Pushpalatha. Later, team Netherlands and Portugal was announced as prize winners and the runner-ups of EMP’ORIO 2014. Mr. I.N.Noronha gave away the mementos to the runner up team and our Principal Prof. Satish Bhat gave away the mementos to the winner team. Vote of thanks was proposed by Sanjith Shenoy, the secretary of commerce association. The event came to an end by 4:30 p.m.

EMP’ORIO 2014 made a bench mark for itself and brought a platform for the budding graduates to exhibit and to develop their abilities.
